Here is a list of instructional strategies that can support the implementation of a blended curriculum. While these strategies are designed for my blended literacy class, they can easily be adapted to meet the needs of any classroom or content area.
Station Rotation Model
- Teacher-led small group (reteach/extend)
- Digital station (annotation or video)
- Collaborative station (discussion or Padlet)
Choice Boards (Menu Learning)
- Students choose how to demonstrate understanding:
- Write a CER paragraph
- Create a visual theme map
- Record a short video explanation
Gradual Release (I Do → We Do → You Do)
- Model annotation → guided practice → independent analysis
Think-Pair-Share (Digital + In-Person)
- Students think independently → discuss with partner → post on Padlet or Google Doc
TECHNOLOGY-BASED ALTERNATIVES
Google Slides Collaborative Deck
- Each student/group analyzes one slide (less clutter than Padlet)
Flip (Flipgrid) Video Responses
- Students explain theme or suspense verbally
- Great for students who struggle with writing
Nearpod or Pear Deck
- Interactive lessons with built-in checks for understanding
Jamboard / Whiteboard Tools
- Visual mapping of theme or plot
These alternative strategies provide multiple pathways for students to engage with texts, collaborate with peers, and demonstrate understanding while supporting diverse learning needs in a blended environment.
